The Biebrza National Park, established in 1993, covers 59 223 ha becoming the largest national park in Poland. The very unique diversity of plant and animal species and almost natural ecosystems managed to survive in the Biebrza River valey. Here 280 species of birds have been recorded; among them 178 breed in the Biebrza wetlands. 48 mammal species with the biggest population of elk (about 600 individuals) in Poland as well as more than 1000 vascular plants species have been observed in the area. Not any other region in Poland has larger population of Lady’s Slipper orchid. It’s an important breeding, feeding and stop over site for many water owl and wetland birds. According to Bird Life International, it’s the bird’s refuge of global significance. The Biebrza National Park was added to Ramsar Convention list in 1995, as one of the most important world wetland sites. The Biebrza Valley was also incorporated into the European Ecological Natura 2000 Network, which protects the most valuable nature ecosystems in the European Union. As the result many species of flora and fauna including: birds Spotted Eagle, Black Grouse, Great Snipe, Aquatic Warbler, mammals – Beaver, Otter, Wolf as well as plants – Fen Orchid, Marsh Saxifrage and Eastern Pasque Flower are particulary protected at the Biebrza River.

Pentowo, European Stork Village This small village is located on the Narew river. The main attraction is 31 stork nests. Sockets can be seen up close (towers) and from afar. They are located in all possible places: in the trees, on roofs, on the tower, on the pillars. We will watch storks at the time of hunting and feeding young, we will hear a distinctive clatter of stork.

The Białowieża National Park
The headquarters is in Białowieża. The total area of the park is 152.2 square kilometres. It is home to the world's largest population of European bison , the continent's heaviest land animals. The park's formal beginning was the Forest Reserve inspectorate established in 1921.Currently, the park consists of three administrative units: The Protective Orłówka Precinct, the Conservation District Hwoźna and the Bison Breeding Centre (with three reserves, breeding and demonstration Bison Reserve). The idea of creating a national park locally is about 200 years old. However, the genuine protection efforts which are being continued today, are centuries older. Often called the "last untouched wilderness of Europe", the Białowieża National Park is the only one of its kind among the 23 national parks of Poland. Its inner zone belongs to the realm of old-growth forest which has been living without much human intervention for almost 800 years. Only scientists can navigate the strictly protected area freely.
